Ending it all on a perfect 7
On April 6 2004, a tiny speck of a website was launched to show off some Halo trick videos - pretty much a little boat floating in the ocean of HBO. Soon after, a phpBB forum followed, with a handful of people signing up who just loved to hang out and chat about Halo 1 trickery.

Then came Halo 2 - the explosive growth in traffic, great new community members, excellent Halo trickery, and plenty of madness. Then Halo 3, and...

Most of you know the rest of the story, and so here we are. However, this year on April 6 - exactly 7 years to the day since HIH began - we're heading into cryo. It's been a long and amazing trip, but it's time that HighImpactHalo draws to a close.

The decision has been in the works for some time, and is ultimately made by me, but with the counsel of the HIH admin team - and it's a good decision. Many won't like it, but it's time. In web years, our site is like 487 years old or something like that.

The good thing is that we're not just 'shutting down' - we're going into cryo, following in the footsteps of a certain Halo character we kinda like. HIH, complete and entire, will be frozen on April 6, and will be locked but viewable, including all the content. Forum posts, archive forums, all of our huge HIH Trick Video Archives - everything will remain available as a testament to all the great people who have spent time here and contributed their talent to the Halo community.

To make this happen, we've come full circle - back to HBO where we first started. We've partnered with Louis Wu, who has graciously agreed to host every single bit of the content of HIH going forward. Most of our stuff is already there, but no 'switches' have been flipped yet. That will come later. I'm also maintaining a separate and complete copy of everything, with build packages, as protection against any sort of unexpected content loss.

Making this choice wasn't easy, because HIH after 7 years almost seems to be a part of my DNA, even though my personal contribution here has been little in recent times. I literally could not be more thankful for the relationships that have been created over the years in our little corner of the interwebz, and the sheer volume of FUN that this group of people helped to create for many of us.

SO, the entire point here is to the give the community some notice - slightly more than two weeks - and I would ask that everyone use this post as a place to drop by and writeup some favorite HIH memories, hat tips to past members, etc.

NOTE: for those of you viewing this on the front page of the site, simply click the 'comment' link below the news post to be taken to the forum post.

The one rule is that we keep it positive - we'll be removing anything that isn't. Let's take the old girl out on a good note.

Thanks everyone - I'll post another note on April 6.

This is a very sad day. :frown:
Duke, I totally respect your decision, everything has to end at some point and HIH has reached this point now.
I will edit this post when I find the time to write up a few things I expirienced here.

ASP

EDIT: I feel like I should edit this post now that HIH is only a few hours from going into cyro. I cannot find the right words to express my feelings towards this place. I'm close to shed tears.
Fortunatlely, I have quite a lot great memories and experiences I was able to wittness here and I'm very gratefull for the past 4.5 years I spent here. I found a nice little corner of the internet here with some of the nicest people I ever got to meet!
Thanks to all of you guys, it's been a pleasure to be part of this incredible community called HIH! I <3 all of you guys! :'(
Very sad indeed. Goodbye everyone. This site helped me learn interesting things. Sad to see it go. :/
It was looking this way for awhile, I can understand where you are coming from Duke.

Guess this is the end... wishing it was 07 again

Well Duke, that's a great early birthday present.

Na I keed, I've had fun on this forum since I've joined, it's been looked at more than once a day, every day. I hope things go well for you after all this is over.

Peace out.
Just thinking about how much the net world has changed in the last 7 years. You have to realize, we launched this site almost a full year before the arrival of YouTube. At that point, the only way to allow people to see your video was to find someone with server space to host it.

Ah, the (slightly good) old days.

:-)
Thanks Ducain for one hell of a ride. I can definitely say that by joining HIH in June 2006, this website has shaped my experience for Halo and beyond. I for one loved watching Halo launching videos not only for the tricks, but my music library and tasts have definitely expanded as well. Working at HighSpeedHalo has been a blast and the friends I've met and worked with there are pretty amazing.

It's pretty insane to look back at the long history HIH has been through. Although I was only here for part of it's lifetime, I can definitely tell how things have changed over the years. I'm glad that I could be part of it.

Thanks again Ducain!

I lol'd at that. And no joke I'm afraid.
Sad to see it go. Though I can't say this is unexpected (things have been pretty slow around here these days).
This deeply saddens me, however it was inevitable :(
Well... I'm somewhat sad to see this go.

HIH became a small routine in my life to where I looked forward for anything new. It brings a feel of adrenaline when you see things like LBYL 2 or even Z2 posted. This site literally improved and renovated my main goal which was to meet the top notch tricksters. Well, I wasn't here for 7 years but I got to share it for the 2 years I've been here. Ive had some laughs here and thanks to this site i would be now where that I am right now. I've met some of the coolest people that I don't think I would have ever met anywhere else; however, I guess HIH will completely stay at a stalemate here, sadly :(...

Good-bye and thank you HIH!

For the TJ community: I think we should look at the H3F thread idea again, it 'twas a good idea and it sounds even better now after reading this.

oh you would be surprised...
It's hard to believe that HIH will be going away; I have checked this site virtually every days since I found it back in eight grade. One of my favorite memories is seeing Due get the banshee on the Maw, and my abusing of Sergeant Johnson. (also: OMG at Windows media player and Windows movie maker)

I'll miss checking this website in my normal routine when I start surfing. Guess I'll just have to get used to Youtube and facebook filling that void.

Thanks for all of the memories, and using HIH as a segue in meeting one of my best friends.
Wow, a sad day.

I've been around since the conception in 2004 and it really seems like it happened yesterday.

Places like HIH are a testament to the passion and creativity of fan communities, and even though I haven't been an active tricker for many years with every 'holy grail' that was achieved, my mind was blown all over again.
Awwww This is so sad. I've gotten used to the people on this site, and how it was an everyday routine of mine to check it, I'm going to miss this place. :( But I think we should make a community video..... As Long as we possibly can, EVERYBODY have jumps in it, And from halo 1 - Halo Reach. Just for a farewell of HIH. :)
We still need someone to complete T2T and Two Johnsons! Maybe I'll write something up more fully later, but I will go ahead and say I'm a little sad. I've been here for quite some time, and I'm not ready to part ways.

We should most definitely create a final collaboration video. I know that many have failed before, and we have very short notice, but anybody that has any halo related clips should get them to somebody that will edit the whole thing. I know that I am going to start tricking like crazy over the next couple weeks to try to get something worth while finished before the site closes.
I suspected this day was coming soon. It's unfortunate, but understandable. I'd like to earnestly thank you, Ducain, for creating and maintaining HIH for all these years. I've been visiting HIH since early 2005, and it's been the source of many great memories in the time since then. I've developed several meaningful friendships in my life with people I met here at HIH. I'll miss it.

T2T again?

And Cairo Station cutscene room, along with Grumpy, Xlax, and yes, even Tricker Against Da Odds (3rd time is the charm, is it not?)

I can't believe I joined this site June 2005. What a crazy amount of time that is. A baby matures enough to attend school in that long. I've went from just leaving middle school to sophomore in college. That's insane for me to think about. But you look around this place and you totally understand how something like that could happen. Some of the best tricks, some of the funnest games, and some of the most intelligent conversations have taken place here. That's all thanks to some of the coolest people I've ever found on the internet. HIH is one of the only websites I have gone to consistently for more than like 2 years, let alone almost 6.

Thanks for providing me with funny sensors to my words, that I use from time to time outside of this forum. Thanks to all the members for making this such an awesome place to go every day. I've laughed, learned, and connected with many people, and its been a fantastic experience. Even after I've almost stopped playing halo all together this place is an internet home. Thanks to all the Administrators and Moderators for putting up with and deleting shit to make room for the amazing threads over all these years. Lastly, Thanks Ducain, for providing a platform and being so awesome for 7 years to make all of that possible.
Seriously the best website ever. I love it. I don't want it to go. Been coming here since 06 and it literally has changed me. From the people I've met to the techy things I've learned. It's a habit of me to open HIH with Facebook everyday. This has to be a joke.

I'm like not even coherent right now.

I seriously don't think anybody could put it better then this. I check HIH as often as I check my facebook. I was never really known around here for much, but I was always looking around, and reading nearly all the new threads. I've learned tons, I've looked at situations differently, and I've definitely matured, all because of this site. Thank you to everyone here for such a great few years of knowledge and humor. I really wish I could have got to know some of you better, because I know for a fact that I would have made some kick-ass friends.
Well that sucks.
oh well, I suppose.

This sounds like a good idea, if this actually gets started i'm down to add some clips.

Also this really sucks but i understand the need to do what you're doing ducain. It was some fun times and I got used to checking this site almost every day. Just looked back into v2, feels weird to say I've been visiting here for 6 years... kinda gives me a sinking feeling in my heart to know that it is going to be gone, but being around for all of the amazing tricks and glitches and discoveries is a memory I'm going to have forever. Halo was one of my first FPS', and this was my first forum. Thanks for all these years Duke, and thanks for all the memories community.

I need a like button for the posts in this thread.
In late March of 2005 I typed in a search word and what popped up changed my life, changed my grandson’s life and it was all for the better. I thought ‘wtf’ is ‘tricking’ so I clicked on HIH. There was like this explosion in my head!

First vid I saw was dantheman87 and his start of the OS Scarab gun quest.

Second vid was Dark Helmet swordflying up to the Metropolis Scarab gun.

Third vid was Ms Man showing how to falltime.
I was astonished, it was like I found something I always wanted to do but didn’t know about it. Like arriving home to a place you’ve never been before. Not only that but the people were friendly and extremely helpful.

Kratos and I turned off the Playstation and turned on the xbox full time. That summer was awesome, we ate and drank Halo 2 and HIH was on 24 hrs. The posting, PM’s galore (we could fill up the messages in one day). Everyday 3 or 4 vids were submitted and we all looked to see if KORHAL approved/legitimized each vid. Then later we all wanted to see what princeofthesword had to say. The perfect match for moderators was KORHAL and POTS, completely different souls but they meshed like gears in a perfect engine called HIH.

Kratos and I watched the front page and poured over every vid in the fold-down list of trickers, knowing we could never be as good as our idols. Then, low and behold we made front page and I literally cried like a baby I was so happy. The FP was fine but that is not what made me happy. I realized that the way tricking taxed our brains was a positive thing. We spent hours discussing strategy and using logic to sort out what was possible, it was much more than just playing a game. Kratos and I became closer and, by going through hell to make a trick work, truly came to understand each other that lasts to this day.

The people I will miss dearly already know so I won't list names. There are several people that I hope will post here one last time and they also know.

I’m glad I clicked on HIH that day.
*sadface*

I've visited this site since the release of halo 2 at leas once a day. What should I do with all my spare time now?:O

I would like to say thank you to everyone here at HIH: Ducain, mods, admins, monitors and don't forget all the awesome people I met here!! Thanks for some awesome years!

Love, Bob
Wow. This really took me by surprise. Definitely a very sad day. :frown:

I've been with this site for just a little over 6 years(didn't even realize that mark had hit 4 days ago). It's become one of my regular places to go every day and has become like a virtual home. It is the reason I got in to Halo and is the very reason I got into tricking. I loved coming here and showing off my stuff and seeing all the good, and yes even the bad, comments that it got. It gave me a great feeling that pushed me to do more. Even more so, I loved coming here and seeing what the community was doing. The things I've seen done with a video game have just been unbelievable. The talent that lies within these forums is just amazing!

It is also another place I loved showing off my graphic design and photomanipulation work. I joined a couple graphics boards over the years but there was just something about HIH's sub-forum that I loved to post my work at. It even allowed me to help contribute to the site by creating some icons for the board(these are what I created that you now see in use: http://www.highimpacthalo.org/forum/showpost.php?p=658463&postcount=6). It is a big honor to have these be used on such a great site and I'm glad they'll be frozen in time with the rest of this amazing site!

Honestly, I don't know how different my life would be without this forum. It has had a hand in shaping my life and by that I do mean my real life. The things I have seen here and posted here have allowed me to meet people and do things I never would have been able to without this site. For example, after I posted one of Jumps United's(my former gaming clan I co-started as a Halo 2 clan) videos here, a guy, whom you all know as I Neo I, sent me a friend request on XBL after seeing it on this site. He soon joined our clan, we played together all the time, and I went on to meet him in real life, after he told me about an awesome college. I soon went to visit it with him. I eventually went on to graduate from there and had some of the best experiences there. So, because of HIH I got a great friend and found out about what was the best school I have ever went to. The list of things HIH has done to change my life is a long and extensive one. I'll share some more over the coming days!

Ducain: I really want to thank you for making this site. You have had a big impact on not only my life, but that of many others and the Halo community. You know a site has became a great site when Bungie puts your site in the credits of Halo 3. I'm sure you and all the members of this were filled with joy when we saw our beloved site pop up in the credits. HIH will be missed but not forgotten.

I want to also thank the staff and members of this site for making HIH what it is today. Without you, we never could have come this far. Hopefully we can all find a new home on the net somewhere but until then lets make these last days memorable ones!

How odd that I've never known all this time that those icons were made by you. Very cool.

And ya, the Halo 3 credits. Never expected that actually. I was in FL when Halo 3 was released, on vacation with my extended family. My sister and I drove to Wal-Mart and purchased the game, and I finally finished the campaign around 3 AM. I was sitting on the couch in the hotel leafing through the stuff that came with the game and saw it. My jaw dropped. What made it even weirder was that there was no one awake to even say, 'Look at this!'.

Very cool of Bungie to do that.
What's this going to mean for the High Speed Halo forum? Will it be put into stasis as well? I am glad everything here will be archived somewhere. There's too much good stuff to let it vanish. thanks again.

Yes, but I've worked with NoKYARD since the very first day of planning this, to make sure HSH was taken care of.
:( as they say all good things must come to an end
I don't have words. Despite getting banned from here countless times back in the day, I've always had to come back. But all good things come to an end. I'm sad to see it go, but I thank you for every bit of it Duke.
*tears* This site has changed me for the better. Almost everything about my life right now I can say has been affected by this site. From school, to golf, to editing. HIH has always been the first site I visit when I come home from work and I continually check it throughout the evening. Knowing that I won't be able to do that anymore brings a tear to my eye. I've meet so many incredibly talented people here who have taught me so much about Halo in ways Bungie never intended.
I very rarely ventured out of the Trick Jumping section, and looking back I wish I had. Reading everyones farewell messages from people I've never heard of made me realize there was so much more to HIH then just Trick Jumping. I wish I had got to of known more of you.
Sigh...

Well, these things happen. :|

EDIT BY DUKE: Let's remove the commentary of what members think should or should not have happened here, or we'll never have a positive experience.

Been here on & off since November 2004, just before the V1/V2 turnover. Came here for the Halo 2 skull discussion on the recommendation of someone from the Bungie.net forums (I carried over my username from there), stayed for the totally crazy off-topic section. Only banned one time for contributing to a spam thread.

Best part of this place: The moderators aren't like policemen. They're just like you & me, but with a little more responsibility. I've NEVER been to any other forum with such an awesome attitude...

Second best aspect: Boundless creativity. On the tricking side, it's a wonder y'all aren't members of Bungie's testing squad. On the off-topic side, wonderful technical advice and enchanting graphic design.

Many good posters left in recent times, but those who stuck around kept me coming back time & time again...

I never contributed anything of note besides a failed petition and some long music lists, as tricking turned out to be much too time consuming. But I still had tons of fun. even though I couldn't be with the heart of the community.

I MUST give thanks to my favorite members...

This is indeed a sad day for us all. I've been consistently browsing HIH for nearly 6 years. I've spent too much time here and met some cool folks along the way.

Adios Amigos. ;)
I got up at 8:40 this morning, and went to try and eat a bagel without drinking very much, just to put a little food into my system without bogging me down, but I didn't make it very far into it before stopping. I felt quite tense. And for good reason; at 10:00 my DiffEq final began, and it was quite possibly the most difficult academic test I have ever taken. After the test, I ate a small lunch to recover, got a few school odds and ends sorted out, and started packing to head home for break. After a while, I got on my computer to flip through the websites that I normally visit, and I come here.

I'm quite exhausted right now, such that I'm not really sure what to think. I guess what's on the top of my head, if anything coherent, is "well, what happens now?" This is a, umm, substantial day for me, I suppose.

Glad to hear you're getting archiving and long-term reliable hosting all worked out.

//=====

I came here in mid to late 2005 and registered on the v2 forums that december. I didn't exactly contribute a great deal (Back then, I was also in a stage of online-idiocy), but I was actively viewing what was going on.

This website was something else back then. Funny to think that the summer of 2006, with the development of Trinity (and T3T Revisited, which wound up taking until late 2007 to finish) and the era of all those massive variety videos was half a decade ago. Through 2008 and especially 2009, I was pretty inactive at HIH, unfortunately; looking back I wish I had been here more often.

Let's make the next few weeks awesome, and then I guess I'll find out what the future of my Haloing and website viewing holds.

//=====

P.S. Once again, I love how you called it "going into cryo", and that you've got it worked out so that that may not be a particularly inaccurate statement; gotta love archival stability.
Duke, will you unban everyone for the last few days or so? Lol!

1. Um...no. :-)

2. I actually sent POTS (and a few others) an email this morning. Don't know if he'll get it.

I hope POTS posts here. His posts were always insightful, interesting, and VERY long but it was a great read every time!
Word to your mothers. PEACE!
Halo 3 credits!

I don't really know what to say. I lurked for a couple years before making an account, and never posted in v1 or v2 because of it, but I can say for sure that this site got me into tricking, and kept my love for Halo alive in a way I didn't even know about. Even if I never contributed much, just learning from the people here made it worthwhile. I was incredibly happy for everyone here when I saw the H3 credits.

It's a bitter-sweet feeling that it will be frozen. On one hand, a site I have checked every day for the past 6 years will not have anyone talking, or be able to be talked to, but on the other hand I can have time to re-look at all the amazing things this community did.

Thank you Duncain, for this wonderful site.
Tank you duncan for this wonderful site

schlapskie... I've been checking this site daily for a while now , since 2005.... I knew a lot of people left but still, this sucks. But I respect the decision.

This is actually the only forum I am a member of...might have to start looking for something else...maybe even not video game related. Shit time flies

HIH was awesome to me. I found an interest in modding, then programming and system administration, which led me to what I'm doing now days, and what I plan to do for the rest of my life. I don't know if I would have ever discovered the passion that I have for my job if it weren't for HIH and everyone included.
Dagnabbit, I only just joined the place! I want my money back! Oh hold on, it was free. I knew there was a reason I joined. Seriously though, sorry to see it close, especially as I'm personally still fooling about with H1 far more than is medically advisable. I'm glad the content will still be viewable though, including all ye olde searchable archives which have been quite useful to me and which I'm sure I'll want to delve into again in future. Thanks to all concerned for keeping the place going all this while - and to Louis for providing a nice shiny cryo-tube in which to preserve it.
Fucking damn it. :(

I found my interest in photography and graphic design by extension of this website. If it weren't for highimpacthalo, I probably would be an entirely different person.
Its a sad day for sure.
Halo was the reason I even bought my first PC back in '02. I wanted to play online against other people and the only was was through tunneling software. Without Halo, I may have not gotten a PC for a few more years. I was an old fashioned dude that didnt need one of those fancy electronic boxes...
Then I saw RG's video and the rest was history.
Then Duke made this place and suddenly I was surrounded by like-minded people. I have to say that without this place I may have not been motivated to do some of the things I did.
This is a great community and even though I dont frequent it much anymore, it will be missed.
Thanks for making this place and for being one of my long time "online friends".

Thanks Dude...
Oh man, I've been here for quite a while on another harrybob, wound up forgetting the password to that one. HIH has been a huge part of my daily routine for as long as I can remember and as people on here have said I check it almost as much as my facebook. It really has been quite an amazing community and I will never forget the times I have had on here and some of the threads I have read as well as problems HIH has helped me through. Were there an HIH movie, this is the part where I cried

So sad:frown:

I know I have not been here for as long as most of you but I have come to love this site greatly.

I still remember the day in which I joined, I was looking around for a nice community to join where I could actually achieve something with. I found High Impact Halo and started lurking the forums a bit, occasionally making a post (most of the time embarrassing myself). It wasn't until I joined a random Xbox live party with another member in it that I actually started becoming active. This member introduced me to some other members here, who then invited me to join their tricking/glitching clan. A couple of months after I joined we put out our first Halo video Gravity = Drag which got featured on the Bungie.net front-page, which is something that I had dreamed of doing for a while.

To this day HIH is still helping me become who I am, thanks to this site and its members I have become more understanding of other people. I have learnt and experienced stuff that other people my age haven't and for some never will. The HIH community has also taught me some great skills and has increased my knowledge on certain matters that I would otherwise never have known. HIH has also been there to listen when others have not, it has guided me through times that have been hard on me and not asked for anything in return. For me HIH has become part of my way of life well up there with my family.

It was sad to see this but I knew for a while now that this was going to happen.

RIP, High Impact Halo you will be greatly missed.

I made a HIH friends list gamertag if anyone wants to add it.

This is actually the only forum I am a member of

I have been a member of a some forums over the years but this is the only one I've gone to on a daily basis. I used to be a regular at a weather site but eventually it just got really slow and nothing new was happening and recently it closed, sadly. I do occasionally post on the Bungie forums but even that is just few and far in between. This was my regular place to go and post. I'm not gonna have any place to share things I find, at least in great detail, or be able to comment on other people's findings or discussions. I mean sure I have Facebook and Twitter but I really don't get much comments or great discussions like I did here. The internet is gonna get a lot more boring when this site goes. :frown:
See, this is the exact reason why I left while I could. I didn't want to see this, but I'm so attached to this place I STILL check it everyday.... :(

You guys are so amazing, every single one of you. In one way or another, each and every one of you have inspired me in some shape or form. I love you all with all of my heart, I don't know what I'm going to do. I feel like I'm losing my best friends.

I came to this place in v1, mainly looking because I heard about Hog Launching. I thought it was awesome. Then here comes a man, who till this day is my hero, MrJukes. His videos inspired me, so I joined. Then I started to see this place just escalate and I saw how much fun people had doing tricks and glitches. So, I bought a Dazzle 90, then I started jumping.

Flames69, with his clan Hops gave me my break. CRAZZY MISFIT and I were featured in the video and we got to show off our stuff, (along with Flames duh) lol. I made great friends with them and I saw how awesome it was. So I bounced to so many clans and started glitching. That's how I made all of my friends today. It also inspired me to do video editting and photoshop. Now I've majored in those fields, all because of this wonderful place.

Now it's coming to an end. Duke, you have created your Mona Lisa. There is no words to describe how I feel about this place going away. All I can say is, Thank you Duke. You're a great man, and I hope nothing but the best for you from here. You can at least close this forum, KNOWING that you have accomplished something great.

Good bye HIH, see you when you're ready to save the world again.

Wow...this is kind of sudden...I knew it was probably going to happen sooner or later, but I expected later...

A huge shoutout and thanks to far too many people to begin naming for countless nights of trickery and schenanigans. I've been coming on here for years, and it's going to feel weird not coming to HIH anymore.

I have wondered why you would not simply choose to pass ownership on to someone who has the means and drive to keep the site up....however, I realize that a procedure such as that would probably be much more complicated than I can imagine. After all, HIH is your baby, Duke. We all pitched in, sure, but she's yours in the end.

I do sincerely hope at least one old-timer starts up a new discussion board of some sort...it won't come near the legacy that was, is, and forever will be HIH, but it would at least serve to keep HIH's tricking community somewhat together. I know I will continue to post Reach tricking videos on Youtube as I see fit, and a link to HIH will never be forgotten.

For those still looking to maintain contact with members, my XBL GT is Ridankul0us, my AIM is T3amAm3rica1, my email is [email">MrCybin@yahoo.com[/email">.

You guys have been awesome, and while I know I will be maintaining contact with a generous number of old-time HIHers, I'd like to maintain contact with as many as possible. I know those of us who were here for the prime of HIH (Halo 2) will never forget the times we shared. Good luck to everyone in all walks of life, and don't ever forget the years we shared, united as trickers. (/epic voice)

I usually don't sign posts, but for some reason it seems prudent.

-TeamAmerica1
It saddens me to see the end of HIH.

Sort of like everyone else, I was brought after watching some crazy clips of launches and glitches, and ever since I join High Impact Halo, I've been hooked since. First I met Princeofthesword, then Shad0wFlame, and SlYnKI and Protonish. Since then, I slowly caught on and began to meet more and more of you.

It's been almost an honor to have been apart of this and with everyone here. HIH has definitely left it's mark in the Halo world, and it's something to be proud of. Like TeamAmerica said, I figured this would happen sooner or later, but not exactly now. Duke, you've really got something to be proud of, and I really hope that one day, maybe just one day, HIH will be opened again.

If anyone cares, my Skype is TehCookieNinja and you can find me on Facebook through the HIH group.

It's really been a pleasure to have been apart of this.

Well, I've been a lurked for around 3 years now. Finally got up and joined this year. I really enjoyed this place, and I will miss it. It was a good run. 7 Years seems too few. Even if this place is sort of dead, it will still be upsetting to stop coming when I first open firefox. Any hope on reactivating the place, or is it done for good? Wait... What? I thought...

So they're the same people??
.....I don't know what to say. I thought I was going to open the site today to check Y&B for the usual discussions only to find this on the front page. I'm still recovering from the initial shock. I guess I knew this was coming but just wanted to ignore it because I was enjoying myself so much on the forum. Wow, its incredible how it all just comes back to you at moments like these. A week ago I probably couldn't have told you about when I signed up for HIH but now its clear as a bell.

I remember when I first figured out what halo was and then a few weeks later the tricks people were pulling off in H2. I remember asking myself "who's this HIH group that keeps doing all these?" I remember finding the site and lurking the threads just being in awe of it all, the conversations, the tricks, the rivalrys, the friendships. I was blown away and all I remember saying was "Wow." I remember signing up and then...nothing I forgot about it as impossible as it seems. Completely forgot about tricking and halo. I remember posting something on the HBO forums around a year later and receiving one or two crude comments. (Not sayin gthe community is bad that was just the experience I had). Around then was when I rediscovered HIH and was blown away once more by you guys. The Community. Ever since I've been lurking and posting when I felt I could contribute even in a small way. Its been a satisfying two years and my only regret is not being born sooner so I could've had the amazing time you all did, but then again I still had a great time on this forum. I'm sad to see something so great go into "cryo" but rest assured the day it comes out I will be there to welcome it back with a smile and open arms and be part of the community that has become part of my life. I think what I enjoyed most was the acceptance for almost everyone, provided you weren't a troll, as well as the intellectual theories and debates. Its so hard to find that on the internet especially in such bulk.

I don't know if you'll remember me but I'll remember you, all of you, Thanks HIH for everything.
I'd write a story about my time here at HIH, about how I found this place and started out, how far I've come as a gamer, about all the things I went through in my personal life and how much I've learned and grown, but all I can really say is that I've had a great time. I'm really gonna miss this place, I'm sorry to see it go, but I completely understand, Duke. Thanks for the great ride. It's been a pleasure knowing you all.

That being said, the board isn't going down for another two weeks, so I still have time to throw together one last variety video =)
Well this sucks. I'm gonna go wait in the car.

Halo 3 credits!

What I was thinking. Even if we aren't on best terms with bungie today, there ARE the makers of the game series that made HIH what it is and what it was. I think someone should notify them, they often post stuff from HBO on the bungie blog on the bungie.net front page so maybe they'll bother taking a last look at the community they gave wings with CE and 2 only to shoot down mercilessly with 3 and reach.

I've spent a hell of a time here. Mostly lurking and looking at what others did, but sometimes coming up with a (little) something of my own (I'd even have a last one before cyro if Bierwiser shows up in time). Mainly pointless endless internet arguments at the Y&B. But it's thanks to this place my friends know me as "the guy who's always doing some crazy glitch when you join his custom game". It's viral; I try to get out of maps and do stuff in every game I play. To 3 years of not playing the game as it's supposed to be!

Adieu!
I just searched through my site-registration emails:

I'm sitting here staring at the welcome message for the V3 forums, from 6th April 2006! Thats a long time.

Then I remembered I was definitely a part of the V2 forums! Found my profile, 16th January 2005. Wow. Thats 6 years even up to now. I swear I lurked a bit on the V1 forum as well... but anyway.

HIH has been awesome. I will never forget this place. It has lost me many hours of my life; whether it was interacting on the forum, watching videos on Mythica, or trying the tricks for myself.

I never posted a tricking video per-se; I never had a capture card that worked well! But I always followed along, tried some tricks for myself.

Ha! Looking at my old V2 profile, my location is listed as this:
[QUOTE">Location: Sword Flying Over The Control Room

I consider that to be one of the absolutely defining moments of my time spent tricking, glitching, and otherwise goofing around in Halo. For those who don't recall/don't know, Halo 2 had this awesome glitch where you could be aiming at an enemy with one weapon (say, a rocket launcher), switch weapons, and very quickly lunge with the Plasma Sword, and since the reticle was still red, you'd lunge all the way at the person with your Plasma Sword.

There were ways to extend the distance to obscene degrees. If I'm remembering this right: you could do the trick in the side seat of of a vehicle like the Warthog or Spectre, then move the vehicle far from the original location, get out, and you'd FLY!

I did this trick on (I believe) the level 'The Great Journey,' which featured the Control Room of Delta Halo. The lunge I'd built up was SOO powerful, that it shot me across the level, all the way to the top of the level's invisible barrier, and I sort of hung over the top of the control room for what felt like an age before it final wore off and I fell to the ground and died.

I only did it to that epic degree once, and it was only a very brief event really, but I remember the view from up there perfectly and vividly to this day.

How does this related to HIH? Well, this was the place I found out about sword flying! The people here were the ones that found it, did insane things with it, and replicated some of them myself :)

Oooh! List off some of your favourite tricks to do in Halo!

Grenade Launching stuff!
Grenade Jumping/launching!
Slide Jumping!
Brute Shot jumping!
slipping between doors with the dismount animation! (nightfall & Silent cartographer!)
Vehicle collections! (I did some on AotCR, Delta Halo & Containment Zone :)
Overloading maps!
Breaking spawn sequences! (AotCR bridge fall, Keyes,

WOOO!! Fun!

Its been an awesome 7 years HIH! Keep on trickin'

As for me, can't say I've really been active the past year and a half. I can say that this place got me through my four years of college. This is where I came to put off homework, to vent, to relax after hours of mind numbing classes. I would spend hours with my laptop out at the university cafe just browsing HIH until they finally kicked me out at closing time, lol.

This has been one of the best online communities I have had the honor to be a part of, and I hope that everyone here can find another home on these vast interwebz that is at least half as awesome as HIH.

I agree with duke on having a Like button lol :D
Don't mean to steal any thunder from this thread but...
I can't remember exactly how I ended up here but I do remember the very first visit. It was on the V1 forums and Dark Helmet had just made some video (Three towers or something like that) where he would sideseat sword lunge at a phantom's turrent and just fly away. Blew my mind.

My first video was Above and Beyond Relic. Looking back the editing and overall concept of the video was pretty retarded but when Duke put it on front page I almost died from joy.

That video spawned a challenge from him to land a hog on top of the relic tower. That challenge spawned a tricking group the likes of which had never been witnessed throughout history. HimpactRetards...

Swaheeli, Ghost Faction, Shad0wflame, Spnkr Matt, Keasbey, Evlmidget and his bro, causeofdeath15, baseball, NtotheNsane, Crazzy Misfit...I can't even remember everyone in the clan but I'll bet you remember some of the fun times.

Base2Base and Project Mayhem/Chaos were our defining times and the hours logged looking back is pretty ridiculous. I remember not having a mic for so long and they would all laugh at how fast I could type out a text message to my interpreter Swaheeli.

You were all as close to me as my real life friends back then and it's sad that I never got to meet any of you. I have so many memories I could write about HIR but I'll refrain.

Shoutout to Yasha for STILL being leaps and bounds ahead of everyone as far as ridiculous tricks went. CoconutCorp as well for being our bro's in crime.

All the mods, you did what you could to keep the spam at bay and honestly did a fantastic job as well as throwing up some vids of your own (KORHAL on QZ as a shining example).

Ducain, what can I say. We never really talked or responded to eachothers posts or anything really but providing us all with HIH meant you were close to everyone and we all respected the hell out of you.

I could seriously write an essay about HIH but I'll leave you all with my facebook (http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=511762050) and some closing words.

To all the HIH'ers I've know and forgotten, it was never about playing some video game or being the first to do something, it was about having friends who truly cared what you had to say and looked forward to the next time you would speak. Good luck in life guys.
Thanks for all the memories Ducain.

Damn, this was one of the few good sites on the internet... Well I guess all good things come to an end. Out of curiosity why are you shutting down the site? Sorry if someone has asked this already, I'm reading this on my phone atm.

I'll make an archive of my videos as well, I think I have enough to make one now.
Wow. I found this site back in the v1 days. This is really a strange idea. HIH was my first home on the internet. I don't even know how to comprehend this. Team called me last night to tell me this... And I'm still in shock... It's been a good ride though. I'm already friends with all my close buddies. But if any of you wish, add me on Facebook! Holy shit. Does anyone know if Xbox Connect still is online???
The things I'll always remember(thanks to HIH):

- The credit whoring. Who could forget? lol
- When we(Doubtful, Jakeyboy(I think), and myself) got to the ledge at below Gemini.
- HIR <3
- The warthog on top of the Relic tower challenge.
- The millions of attempts at T2T. Also, HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW IF SOMEONE ACTUALLY COMPLETED IT WITHOUT HIH?! :(
- My days in Coconutcorp. :)
- My crappy machinimas that I posted here during V2.
- POTS (I'm glad his words of wisdom will be frozen in time.)
- All my tricking inspirations like Yasha, Johnintoit, grumpy, HX2T, CC, HIR, BGT, etc.
- The endless hours online trying to do some seemingly impossible trick or launch.
- Meeting good friends. (Spuff, Kaboom, Shadoh)
I've never said this out loud, and I know it's kinda sad, but this place felt like home the second I joined up. This place gave me somewhere to go where I felt I belonged during my less than amazing teenage years. I will never outgrow my need to glitch, and who knows, maybe this isn't the end... Perhaps this is only the beginning of something new. To Duke, and to everyone who's ever posted here(minus the bots who posted porn that one time), thank you. You're all awesome.

It certainly has been a good go, I don't know if anyone has suggested this yet because I haven't read all of the 100 posts before me but I think we should make a send of trick video before it freezes, with tricks from all of the halo games, to make one last memory of HIH.

I did join a while back, but can't for the life of me remember what I made my account name... Or password for that matter.
It is a grim day indeed when even HIH has felt the lack of activity and has begun to fade away. What will become of the glitching world now?

I've been here since 10-28-2006, and I have to say this has been one of the greatest resources for Halo Tricking ever. I am only sorry that I did not do more sooner in the epoch of HIH.

So passes the old to give rise to the new.

Edit: If only I had had the time to finish my video before this great saddening event. Now I can only ask, will it ever be finished? What a sorry fate it would be if my legacy would be forever incomplete. Four hour video, five years of making, I return to thee.

Unbelievably, I never made an account on HIH, but i've always kept up on the posts. Sad to see it stop like this, but I think it's pretty likely some new site will be made by a fan of HIH that mirrors this one, so hopefully we'll all still have somewhere to go...
We will last forever..

HIH, HIR, all the crazy halo one and two glitches..

Everything.
I will continue to watch the youtube accounts of those who I know the youtube accounts of, the site might freeze but I hope the community will go on
Well, like lots of other people here, HIH was a site I would always check, every day. Because of HIH, I became the local glitch/jumpmaster on my Halo 2 friends list (until I joined actual glitching and jumping clans) and you guys gave me days of stuff to try in Halo 1, 2, and 3. HighImpactHalo was there during all the late kid/early adult years of my life. Seven years ago, I was just entering middle school, and now, the site will close near the end of my last year of high school. It's going to sound really nerdy to say this, but my advancement up the Halo ladder was a great parallel to real life. I never really did anything too big, but going from a 12 year old kid with an Xbox, no Live, and a new forums account, then making videos and playing with other people like demolisher and dyeguy, to being someone who showed up in something every 4 or 5 months was really something special. I really did nothing in Halo 3 and Reach, but the fact that some people can say "oh, Insetik, I know him a bit" is awesome in itself. My videos were crappy, mostly in 240p, and had Creed and Nightwish backing them, but people saw my videos and liked them. Again, awesome.

I'm not looking for more attention with this post. It's just that sometimes, I remember demolishmentor finally teaching me basically everything superbouncing related, or messing around in CoconutCorp lobbies while everyone thought that a 13 year old Insetik 47 was really 22, or when Ducain put one of my videos on the front page (the Creed one). It's a psychological thing- that there are people who were basically my friends, who would invite me to their games when they saw I got online, that I only know by their gamertags. It's like my own epic, the story of one kid who went from being simple cannon fodder in an 8v8 game to the guy who would escape Burial Mounds in every matchmaking game on that map. They say this story is nothing amazing, but while I was experiencing it, it was amazing.

Thanks HIH. I think I'll still be on the HSH boards after this, but I really don't go to Halo3forum or Glitchgaming at all. Everyone is more impressionable when they are young, and I just don't see myself latching on to anything like I did Halo and glitching. My 15 year old self was much more willing to play for hours than the 18 year old me, and the fun of doing one trick or glitch doesn't last as long, even when I mess with a superfast catapult in Reach for an hour or two. Three years ago, I'd invite everyone, but now, I'm done before anyone who plays Reach still gets online. Still, like the saying, those were the best of times, and I won't forget them.
I never was an active member of HIH but I always visited it in the halo 2 days. Its been part of halo for me as much as xbox live and lan parties.

It was great to do all the glitches and out of level exploration in H2 then revisit halo to see what could be accomplished and move forward to break barriers in H3 and HR. Its a sad day to think of it being over but it was all in all a great ride.

Man, this was a good chunk of my teenage years. I remember me and my friend getting on top of the taller crane on Headlong in Halo 2 and thinking we were awesome. We came here to post pics (that we took with a digital camera), and had no idea how to actually post them. Back then, no one flamed us for being the ridiculous noobs that we were.

My profile, been here since 05...darn, I'm gonna miss this place.

I know I haven't been the most active, and most of you probably have no idea who I am but I'd just like to thank everyone for being awesome in this community, it's been fun.

I'll miss you HIH, so long old friend. :frown:

Double post, deal with it.

Despite the trolling of recent I've been lurking HIH almost 7 years. Quite a few good years and memories. (most with members of the irc though)

I honestly believe the site died a few years ago but its still a little sad to see it officially go. 7 is defiantly the appropriate number to leave on. Thanks HIH for some laughs.

If you've ever been a member of the HIH irc you should stop by and say hey sometime.
You know I've always considered becoming part of the IRC group but never botheres spending 30$ on IRC, is it worth it?

If you havent been there i wouldnt exactly start now. the HIH irc is mostly inactive. It only becomes active when we have a guest visitor.

And as far as buying mirc....wat? There ar plenty of free irc clients and Im fairly sure HIH has a client in the site somewhere.
I haven't looked very hard just the one IRC program I found gave me a trial then a chance to buy it for 30$. Always confused me. I'll look around.
Around since V2 forums (Or maybe even V1. I think. Not sure) and still occasionally checking it. To bad it's shutting down...Hopefully the next halo sucks and has loads of easter eggs and glitches.

I guess I'll see you guys later.

Oh shitt. I don't even know what to say. It's been awesome though and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I have not been here for a long time (about 2 years), so when I came here HIH was already dieing.
HIH being shut down is a very sad thing for me because it became my home a little bit, as it was for most of you. I really enjoyed the time that I spent tricking and collaborating with all the awesome H2 people. I love the cooperative HIH attitude, like, if somebody else is planning a trick you wanted to do for long, you help him instead of stealing the trick when all the puzzle pieces fit together finally, just for the credit's sake. From what I have experienced in the H2 Forums, nobody gave a fuck about credit, which I loved. It was not about being the one to pull off a great trick (maybe a bit, I admit... >_>), it was about to work out a trick together as a community, to finally show the deed as being "done" and not as "done by me".
I have gotten to know a lot of great people here, and I'm going to miss all of you. Although I have only contributed some stuff in the H2 Campaign section, I have read virtually any post that has been made in the last 2 years.

In the past few months, my life has changed a lot, so this is some kind of completion of a section in my life, and it will remain as a good memory.
This might sound ridiculous for being here for only 2 years, but in fact, I have been playing Halo 1 since I was 12. It's one of the first games that I have ever gotten, and no game that I will ever play will be as awesome as Halo was for me.

So, I actually have to thank you, the HIH community, for having been my internet home for an important time of my life.

RIP.
Well, it really is sad to see HIH go. Although, I will remember that you guys are only in "cryo" like the Master Chief and if there ever is a Halo 4 with the MC, I believe you guys will be back! If I am wrong, this website has brought me lots of laughs and Halo knowledge. Thank you guys for that.
I tried installing a chat program once, didn't like it. I haven't used #hih since the Java applet stopped working...

HIH, Thanks for the good times. It was fun but the golden Halo age is over. I understand, and saw it coming that the site is going to close, but I didn't expect it to be this soon, it still comes as a shock. This site really started my Halo tricking 'career' and I have met awesome people around the forum. But to all good things come an end... :frown:

Thanks guys for the good times.
Can't believe it myself...The death of HIH is almost like the death of Halo stunts and tricks.

Don't get me wrong, I can't even grenade jump, but it was always amazing coming down here and watching these incredible videos.

We'll miss you Ducain!
It's so sad to see this place go. I remember the first day I discovered this website over 6 years ago. I really wish I had made an account earlier so I could have been a part of the massive Halo 2 age, but as it turns out, I was kinda late to the party and haven't contributed much of anything to this site. Regardless of that, it's been a part of my life every day since I've had this account, and I'll never forget it. I like to keep just a faint sliver of hope that if things go well enough with the Halo series in the future, this site might come out of cryo. I hope that if that day ever comes, I'll see you all back here.
well, I've only been a member of HIH for about a year but Ive been a silent viewer for much longer, and as many poeple said this has become a home for me and I shall miss it dearly. However I shall hang on to the hope that some day It will come out of crio, but unfortunately if that day exists it will be a long time away, untill then we could flock to facebooks high impact halo page in order to keep in touch.

to end this on a posative note I guess this gives anyone who joind late to catch up on the things that happened before there time, I know I shall do so.
With all the friendships, memories, laughs, swearing etc that came about in and between people as a result of the creation of this site, I can't credit another more successful website.

Well done HIH, and thank you.
I initially joined HIH after "Broncho and Friends" was released. I thought it was the coolest Halo video I had ever seen. Spending countless hours after school trying to compete with the latest and greatest jump vid was where you could find me. Online. With all my jumping friends. After practicing jumps day in and day out we were finally ready to form a clan. And that name that we bonded to was...Clan Trickn! Though you may not know us or have seen our videos, we had some of the best moments making these videos...

"Halo 2 Fun"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i58IFLlYO8M

Created during the peak of Halo jumping, our clan's most popular video "Halo 2 Fun," sky-rocketed with over 18,000 views within a few short days!

"Halo 2 Nades"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaY9VLqcp6U

Thinking that we were clever and "oh man! this is gonna be so epic!" We thought, "Hey! Why don't we throw a plasma grenade in some obscure spot and where ever it lands we will put someone there and act like we stuck them first try." Needless to say, the video didn't catch on. Was it because of the idea behind the video or the black explosion marks dictating our countless attempts prior to filming..the world may never know. XD

"Jump 4 Fo0d"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d8Xt4NY8ro

True story behind the name of the video. As anyone knows, you get hungry while gaming, especially into the wee hours of the morning on filming evenings/mornings. Well, this particular night, we were closing in on the last few jumps needed for the video to be complete. That same night, Chuck, our filmer/editor, needed to get his Taco Bell on and He needed it now! Each time we would attempt to land a jump for the video he would say "Do it for the food Darkest! Do it for the fooooooood! JUMP 4 FOOOOOOD!!"

Shortly after completing Jump 4 Fo0d, Halo 2 was coming to a close and Halo 3 was opening a new chapter in our lives.

Halo 3!

Jumping slowly became camouflaged by the uprising popularity of forge. And oh was forge epic!

First off, I would like to give a shout out to BuddhaCrane. Although we never chatted, I felt as if we had an unspoken civil rivalry between our maps.

Coke Vs. Pepsi.
Conan Vs. NBC.
Something like that.

Although in the end, I think everyone classified you as the puzzle maker and I the composer of the platform jumpers.

AWESOME PEOPLE I REMEMBER

There are way too many people to recall but I will do my best.

Fusion - Your the first person that came to my mind at this particular moment. I cant believe how much older you are now! I remember when you and I first met you were like 13 years old? Had a squeaky voice and couldn't transfer your jump video over AIM to save your life.

"Shadow cliff, shadow cliff, gotta get to that shadow cliff!" :)

Chuck - Gone to Taco Bell. I still find it funny as *&^$ that you created a gametype variant for when your actually going to Taco Bell. If the restaurant had any more characters you would be screwed! You know that your the %$&*. I dont need to go on about how you have supported/filmed/edited and did so much for the clan and ME! Thanks bro. Stay in touch!

Beggonboo - Dude how about that insane stick on midship? Dude I just watched Jump 4 food. Your voice is hella high in the end! LMFAO! Dude you should still go PRO! Its never too late!

Maluu - Although we hadn't met until H3, your jump videos have inspired me like no other. We created the intro of "Jump 4 food" to mimic the intro of Transcendence. Keep jumping Browski!!!

Xwo - Thanks for always trying out my latest and greatest maps and pinpointing the faulty areas for my correction.

Jagged - What do I need to say? This feels like its turning into a yearbook signing thing. C U next year??? - Darkest.

Joshington - "Earl Grey your forehead?" Jumpyard ftw.

Cozce - I remember you for being the best at ghost jumping.

Mr. Ollie - Thanks for trying out my maps pre-release. Your an amazing jumper so I could always count on you to tell me if the jumps were doable.

Reidon - I love your accent! + your capture card! But mainly your capture card :P J/k.

Saucycarpdog - Wow. First thing that comes to mind is you singing the Pokemon theme song. Good times man!

Slowhandhendrix - Best at campaign imho. Release your debut album!

Techartist - I always loved having you contribute to our machinima's and videos!

Shminkle - Loved your mods man!

Zodiac - "CHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK"

If it weren't for highimpacthalo, I probably would be an entirely different person.

This is probably the most important thing to me. It's very late and I've had a very long day, so I will likely edit this tomorrow with a lot more "QFT"'s. For now though, I just wanted to make sure I gave special mention to this point.

HIH has really played a major part in my life. Sure, it may seem silly to say so of a gaming forum, but it was way more than that. I wouldn't even be remotely the same person today if not for HIH. It was a place for me to grow artistically. First through music and then through graphics. Without HIH I probably would have never taken my photoshop skills as far as I have, nor would I have taken to photography quite as much. Having such a place to create, share, and review work with such a tight group of people is simply irreplaceable. It also provided a place for me to learn to think critically. I realized I wanted good reviews for my work so suddenly I started thinking about what exactly I wanted to hear and then look for that in others' work. I then took this emphasis on critical thinking and started to get into the more "intelligent discussions". I credit HIH, largely, for my ability to formulate an opinion and get it across coherently in words. I also tend to think of myself as relatively unbiased or I at least make a conscious effort to step back during an argument and make sure I am making my point based on logic and reasoning and not simply arguing it because I wish it to be true. I try to be as understanding of the other side as possible. All of this I attribute, to a large extent, to my observations and participation in many of the threads at HIH.

This has become a second home for me. Its a place I go to vent, to learn, to talk to others, or just rid myself of boredom. I'm very sad to see it go but, honestly, I find it rather fitting based on my past couple of days (more on this in my edit for those who care).

As a side note, what are anyone's thoughts on making a simple little free board that is essentially the "non-halo discussion" portion of HIH? A place for all of us folk to still talk about movies, music, games, graphics, and just random junk? Sure, it wouldn't be nearly as good. I'd even be fine with it being less active. I just feel like it would be nice to have that place to go to discuss things.
HIH was a bitchin roller coaster, SRL
I really can't help but ask is there really a specific reason? I mean it's with no offense meant that I ask this but is it really that expensive or time consuming to run HIH? I'm having such trouble wrapping my head around this I mean honestly HIH is a huge part of my life.
sad to see her go... I'll help spread the word.
guncow;846226 says:

Oh my goodness ='[. It is so sad to see this site go. I haven't been active in awhile, but the time that I spent here was some of the best time of my life. Tricking with HIR and meeting new people was amazing. One of the most stressful weeks of my life was the week where we launched the warthog on top of the relic tower. It took an entire week, and I remember not being able to concentrate at all in school- just thinking about "what if we launch it from this rock instead?" and drawing out maps and ideas. When we finally got it though, man, there was no better feeling. I'll miss all of the people that I met through here and all of the experiences that I had. Being one of the people in charge of HIR really taught me a lot about leadership (damn is it hard to organize 16 people into the middle room on backwash just to glitch a ghost through the floor). Long live HIH and HIR http://www.facebook.com/petcaugh

Oh man, what to say. I lurked here for a long time, and I think I made my first post when I was 16 or 17, back in 2006 or 2007. The very first video I helped with was when CauseOfDeath needed a guy to film his Halo 2 Beaver Creek crouch and through the walls trick. It was so much fun and the start of a great friendship!

Overall, my favorite collaboration and most ridiculous project of all time was Swaheeli's black spot theory. I've never had so much fun with a group before. It was pretty fantastic. It was also what got me to where I am now.

I'm now 21, and in film school. Filming and editing halo videos had become a hobby that I fell in love with and I wanted to carry it on to real life.

It's been a great adventure. If I find some time I may come back and post some shout outs to people! :P

Huge thanks to Duke and all the staff that make/made this place possible. It truly is a great little corner of the internet.
This past few days have been motivation for me to do some of my last attempts at the holy grails in halo 3. Even though this great site is closing down, I'm not going to stop glitching halo 3 or halo reach. I have always admired the great halo 2 tricksters (you know who you are) and I have recently tried some halo 2 trickery myself only to find out that I suck. I really hate to see this site go but I really hope we can still share the amazing tricks we all acomplish in the future. I really hope this community will still be as dedicated as I am with tricking. I am always willing to help with ideas on any halo game and am in need for a filmer to film some of my insane tricks that never got filmed because my filmer quit. If anyone is willing to help me filme these tricks, the final goodbye could be just a little bit more epic. My glitching channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/PhysicsReMastered. I could really use some help exposing these great tricks to the public including tutorials. GT: SlowhandHendrix. Thanks for all the great memories HIH! I'm gonna miss you and so will everyone else.

It is definitely going to be quite a sad day when HIH dies- I mean go into cryo, much more so then when Microsoft pulled the plug on XBox 1 online games, including Halo 2. I joined a while back, but deeply regret not posting here more.
I will be a bitter sweet moment when HIH shuts down, but the legacy it left will be forever lasting. Perhaps one day someone (or something) will stumble upon this soon to be ancient relic of a site to found something just as great as it... Regardless of what happens to High Impact Halo in the future, it will always be remembered.
I think that someone should organize some custom games in Reach when HIH shuts down or shortly after, just as one last final goodbye. It was good to be apart of High Impact Halo, but I'm not quite done yet...

Wow. This hit me real hard.

To be honest, I didn't read every post but just reading through all the names I have seen over the years really made me feel overwhelmed. My mom actually looked at me and asked why I looked all worried and when I told her that HIH was shutting down she said "Wow, that is an end of an era isn't it?"

So yes. Just wanted to say thanks for providing a kind of cave away from reality for so many years Ducain. I still cannot imagine all the hard work you and people around you put into to this place just so we could have fun.

All the Halo 2 kiddies I will always remember. It was a lot of fun. I can never forget all the stupid jokes and weird relationships everyone had...speaking of which...

I saw Anakade here earlier. Pure comedic genius on Mmans part.

This has been a long time coming but the fact that is actually happening now freaks me out...I dont even have xbox live anymore. Ha. Wow, I grew up

Yea. It truly is time to move on. I really cannot even begin to comprehend how perfectly awesome Ducain did on running this site...and again, the people around him. Ending it on a perfect 7, all 4 versions, saving everything in case we have want to have nostalgic moments.

Truly couldn't have been a part of a better community
I have not logged on to the site in a second but i periodically pop on to see whats new. i must say that there is no website i have loved more then this one. When i first found this website, it was in the later half of the first forum time. I cannot name one website in which i slaved over a project just to get a shot at the front page. ive lost countless time to the site, and i dont regret one second of it, this community is full of the most honest/ass-holish/funny people who have ever loved halo. And Ducain i sincerely thank you for your time and effort you put into this site, along with any current or former admin, (Especially mr. jukes) i was 15 when i started here and im 21 now, thanks for the entertainment, the laughs, and the ability to look at halo while stuck in class.
A Tip of the hat to all of you

As a side note, what are anyone's thoughts on making a simple little free board that is essentially the "non-halo discussion" portion of HIH? A place for all of us folk to still talk about movies, music, games, graphics, and just random junk? Sure, it wouldn't be nearly as good. I'd even be fine with it being less active. I just feel like it would be nice to have that place to go to discuss things.

I would enjoy that. I may have come for the tricks but its the discussion that got me to stay. Especially with a community like this.
Wow. Unbelievable. HIH at an end? Can it be? I've spent about 6 years here (just after Halo 2 launched). In fact, my 6 year anniversary is in three days! I remember the skull hunts, scarab guns, launches, etc etc etc. The first trick I ever pulled off was launching on top of the wheel on Zanzibar; a moment I will never forget in my entire life.

I may not have contributed any tricks, but this is the first website I ever visited on a daily basis. I still do, and will until April 6th.

Thanks for everything Duke. Thanks to you and all the members of HIH (past and present) for giving me thousands of hours of tricking videos to watch and thousands of tricks to try (and usually fail at). Thanks.

well, shucks. i never achieved the internet fame i thought i would, but this place has been a great home to me. the halo 1 tricking forum has been my hangout since the beginning, and i made some good friends there.

thanks for everything, duke and the gang.

oh and p.s. i discovered the bleeding walls glitch :p
I suppose it's about time I post in this thread.

It's sad to see the site go. I can't believe I've been visiting here for 6 years. I had alot of fun here on the website, both tricking online with friends and doing campaign tricks. There were lots of great members that came to this, it would take a list a mile long to name them all.

Thanks Ducain for hosting this wonderful site.
Some if not most of you might not even know me, but I know a few of you.

I loved this site. Even though I didn’t post a lot (and at times my posts could be a bit rude), all of the great content and discussions that were held here got me into tricking and jumping. I remember playing Halo 2 and not knowing anything about launching, jumping, or superbouncing, but after visiting here and seeing all the awesome stuff you could do, I never looked back. Being able to be a part of Jumps United (yes, we know you hate B2B videos!) was amazing, all the work we put into finding jumps and launches was probably the most fun I have ever had. Period.

Duke, thank you so much for HIH. It will never be forgotten.

I’m really going to miss this site, but to anyone who would like to keep in contact with me, my facebook is probably the best way.

Love you guys,

Hopefully HIH will wake up when Halo 4 launches?
I just had a thought. Will the HIH YouTube channel remain up?

Also, quite a few of my site pages include links to HIH material, particularly links to the version 1 and 2 archive forums and the trick video archive (all for H1). Is there anything you can tell me about how URLs will need to be adjusted?
I'm using the last few days to peruse the V1 and V2 forums. All the names I had forgotten are there and it's fascinating to watch the evolution of tricking progress from the beginning.

I'm not so sad anymore about the shutdown, it's like when someone dies, it's bad for a while but it gets better day by day. I'm glad we had a warning and I wish Duke well in his future.

I'm just going to enjoy the last few days of HIH.
Wow, I just got back in state and this is a huge shock. Ive been visiting this site and hanging out with all of you awesome people since early '07. I know, not as long as some of the real tricking founders, but a very large portion of my life. This site was one of the best parts of my high school experience, especially during the H2 era where new tricks and challenges were happening non-stop. It was so exciting getting online after school to see what new things were happening in the clan or just to hang out with good friends.

I'll miss the good ol' days of montage making and landing jumps/bounces. Honestly, I have become a fantastic video editor solely thanks to you guys helping me out with techniques in Vegas. I'm in a Video Production class currently, and the stuff I produce is about 10x the quality of anyone else's. They all ask me where I learned my magical ways, "Uhh, Halo?". Well it's true.

I'm sad to see it all go so suddenly, but it is definitely the right thing to do. I'm so glad to have been a part of this amazing community, through all drama, nonsense, laughs and whatnot.

<3 to all,

Well this sucks.... And duke why freeze the site and not leave it open to post?
I know I haven't been very active for the past 6-7 months, but man this is extremely depressing. I've been lurking on this lovely site for over 5 years. So many memories, and so many incredible projects, videos, tricks, and people.

We should set up a list of contact just in case we don't lose touch with some of those special people.

A sad day this will be.

P.S. - I blame the shitty-ness of H3, and Reach on the dying of glitching. :[
Omfg this completely ruined my day.

I do not know what to say. I almost teared up reading that.
I regret not being so active for the past year. I kept holding revisiting HIH off.

God damn. So many good times and good friends made on this website. I am going to miss it a damn lot. Six years. Six years I've been coming back to this forum for one reason or another. This online community will leave memories within me that will never be forgotten. Even though I have not been active much in the past year, I have been taught a whole lot. I plan to be here as much as I can from now until April 6th. Including the IRC. I love you all.

Come on, this can't really be the complete end? A large group of us should still stay in contact whether its through the HIH Facebook Page, XBL, or something else.

Feel free to add me if we are not already friends: Oh Hey Im ChaoS.

I love you guys

Anyone have the big letter we wrote to bungie in forge?
I am one of the ones that have been coming here on a regular basis just to watch awesome tricks. I am sorry I could not contribute in other ways. Words can not describe the feeling some my basic tricking - inspired by the Halo 2 videos on this site - have provided. And from simply watching the videos, too. Something as 'meaningless' as tricking in/exploration of an artificial world in a video game has actually felt meaningful to me. I am grateful that I had the chance to experience High Impact Halo. I will never forget it. Thank you, all of you!
Although I haven't been active for a long time I still feel sad for the demise of this site; though I feel sure you know what you're doing Duke. Good luck to all of you, may you have prosperous futures. Thanks for the experience, it's been truly great. It's so nice to see some older members come back and post. It's great to see how this place has really affected people and made so many people happy. I know I already posted in this thread but I couldn't help but post again as this is starting to feel slightly more real. You guys all rock.

I was never really any good at tricking, but I enjoyed everyone's videos. It inspired me to give it a try, even if I never got great at it!
With your mention of a character in cryo; does that mean we will return from cryo after that someone has returned as well?
I joined this site in May 22, 2004. I just had internet (dial up) and it was the first online community I joined. HIH has been a very fine place all those seven years. The halo 1 days were the best, but luckily the halo 1 tricking community lived on trough every sequel.

This site, this community and this game have given me much joy and a good distraction during stressfull periods in my life. The game was very special, but so was this forum: Is there really a friendlier place on the internet?

Troughout 2010 it kept interesting enough to keep visiting, but this year I felt that the interest in tricking was fading out. Offcourse I was surprised to hear about the closing, but I think it's a logical and pretty way to end it.

Thank you so much Ducain. And thanks to all the members I got to know on this forum. Like I said this was the first community I joined; until this day it's also the only one I have ever been active in. Good luck in life everyone:smile:

I came to this site in 2005 as a 15 year old kid who really liked playing Halo.

It started with tricking, then I got into the modding section of the forum, after I while I started programming and making my own games.

Six years and +4300 posts later, I am working in the game industry as a programmer on the Infernal Engine, and I have been fortunate enough meet a few Bungie employees at GDC and sit in on a couple of talks on Halo.

I've been through a lot while I've been here, and I've compiled a small selection of posts I've made that I will never forget.

Wow, I've been going on this site for almost 5 years now. It's been a part of my life. It's feels so unreal that the site is going to be gone, I can't even comprehend it. I have always loved this site and I will never forget all the great people on here and all the memories I have had. And I will never forget all the great memories I had on Halo 2 because of you guys. I'm happy that I happened to find this site by accident all those years ago. Farewell to everyone, it's been fun.
I posted this is the wrong forum, so I am posting here as well.

Hello HIH, I have been an avid visitor of this site since before 2005/6 (time flies!!). I have seen this site grow and change over the years, both for the good and bad. Mainly for the good of course, but unfortunately life throws things at people in different ways, great trickers came and went and occasionally came back. (If you have been here long enough I am guessing you know whom I talking about!) One thing that remained was the tricking!! And Plenty of it.

I was introduced to tricking solely because of Halo 2 supper bouncing. That day, I knew that Halo 2 would be a game that I would play over and over and for years to come, but even then I had NO IDEA what was in store for me. I decided to see if there were others, I searched the internet and I came across a webpage ( I can't for the life of me remember what it was) that listed 50 or so SB's and how to do them. I think the page was yellow for some reason, could be wrong. That page ended up being picked up by HIH and my underground hobby came alive. HIH introduced me to the amazing things the HALO franchise brought to a niche group in the gaming community. Who would have known hucking a Hog threw the air would be soooo much fun. For that matter playing multiplayer, hours on end, by yourself (YES, this is an understatement!!)

I was never someone who posted much, but was always watching/waiting for the next trick/glitch to pop up. Back then you didn't have to wait a month to get a tut. HIH became a place for me to go to to pass time until I could get home to play Halo and try the things I saw you guys/gals doing here even if I wasn't sure if I could replicate it. I honestly couldn't get enough. And to this day this I feel the same way!

When I hopped back on here yesterday, I saw "some" of the saddest news I have seen posted on this site, the announcement of the end of era. HIH has been a huge part of my gaming life! I can tell you for certainty without this site/community my Halo career would have been cut drastically.

I just want to thank EVERYONE that had any part in this site over the years! Keeping a website like this active takes time and isn't easy. HAHA, Somewhat reminds me of Tricking/glitching...Both are very time consuming and can be frustrating at times, because of this I am grateful. Keep Tricking/Glitching and just having fun!

Thanks Again!!

RU Custum A.K.A Paul

*Sorry about the wall of text!
Well, this is the first time I've posted for - I think - a few years, and what better time than now? Because I don't want to go down in the archives as some random, retarded thirteen-year-old, I thought I'd stop by to bring you this:

Poop.

Also, that if it wasn't for this site, half of my life wouldn't have happened like it did because HIH was what introduced me to... the internet, basically. I wouldn't have expanded to IRC and, eventually, other forums and IRC networks that have, sadly, pretty much defined the course of my life for the last five years (not to say that I don't have one). For the obligatory history, I was bored one day after school and was hanging around in the wonderfully-named "internet club" for an hour, looking at PlanetHalo, sadly enough, plotting when to abuse my next comma when a link on the links page caught my eye. That little link grew up to be HIH. Then I found out how links worked and realised that the site had been there all along. Anyway, registered, talked, Java IRC client, trouts, badmins, etc.

Oh, and I never did own a "CG movie company".
I haven't been a member on here as many other members, and it appears like I am never active here. I never really bother signing in, but I have been reading a LOT of the topics and have enjoyed it a lot :) I have been tricking since Halo 1, I watched a few video's on YouTube and really got into it. I don't really play Xbox much anymore, but I will always be interested in watching video's on YouTube :) Goodbye HIH!

-nathstoke
Oh BTW,

A little question...

WHY exactly is HIH closing at all? Is lack of activity really reason enough to close the site?

Just curious...

It was bound to happen eventually.. I don't come here as often as I used to (visited every day for years) but I have many fond memories of this website.

Duke, best of luck to you in your life and best of luck to everyone else on this site that I have grown close to over the years. I will still be on the interwebs just in different places. I hope to run into you all again.

EDIT BY Duke: I already deleted a few posts like this - one of them yours. This doesn't belong here. If my front page writeup doesn't satisfy your questions, then I'm sorry.
Seeing this on the front page seriously made a rush of emotions come forth for me. As happy as I am that you're keeping the site viewable (thanks Louis)...my heart is broken we can't further post or anything. :(

<3
Crazy to see it end, thank you Duke and the HIH team for your hard work over the years. Thank you to the community for making this site THE place to be for the 'bored-of-shooting' Halo players. I could go on and on about how important this site was when I was 16 and lost in the world of Halo, but there are plenty who share my story.

Just, thank you!
Don't know what made me come back to HIH today, but I'm glad I was able to catch this before it was frozen forever.

I came to HIH all the way back in V1. I remember seeing Warthog launching on Silent Cartographer and I was hooked on Halo tricking. This site was the spawning pool of hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of sleepless nights where I refused to go to bed until I tricked my way through everything I could find on the front page.

I'll sure miss you HIH!
I read the first post on this a few days ago and was going to leave a post but couldn't bring myself to do it.

All I could think of was the song by Don McLean singing American Pie, on the sixth is the day the music stops playing here.

My first video a friend of mine made on here was "superbouncing out of Zanzibar, I posted it in the wrong forum "go figure" but I'm glad I did because it made me stop and ask "hey wait, what's all this stuff about?" I remember watching videos by Yasha and Coconut Corp to mention a few and thought, wow, now this I have to try!!!

I did a string of videos entitled "So you wanna Glitch" a few bounching videos, a boat load of tutorials and countless memories to top it all off.

At the end of it, I want to say thanks to Duke for giving us all this opportunity, thanks to all the people that made this site what it was, a gathering of people that shared a common interest on a game that became anything but common.

Thank you HIH.

This is -Johnintoit signing off.

I remember when my brother introduced this site to me back in 5th grade. Being a part of HighSpeedHalo truly has been an enjoyable experience, even though my brother and I (themann1086) haven't posted a speed run in a long time. Playing Halo games was and still is the most enjoyable video game experience for me, and I have HIH to thank for that. I got to meet some great people, and got to share my love for Halo with thousands of other people. Thanks for the memories HIH, you will be missed.

Anakade is correct. This thread isn't about discussing WHY the site is going into freeze. That's not a discussion I'm going to have here in these final days. I'll keep these posts here for a little while, but I'll scrub everything not on topic in this thread eventually.
Well, I'm not exactly a regular here, but I've been lurking around here since well before my join date of '06. I logged in to make this post and realized my last login was 8-11-2008, although I've been to this site about twice a week since then. I didn't really make any videos or do anything, but I have been so inspired by watching all of the things other people on this site did. I'm a musician (sax player) and whenever I would get fed up with practicing or frustrated I would just think about the patience it must take to launch or pull off some of the other tricks on here. Not to mention I found some great music in the videos. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of that, and given me so much to marvel at over the years.
In case the site shuts down before I can say anything, Thank you again Duke for all the years!

I suppose this is a good place to leave my last post, which is also my 3000th post. :)

I must say, the past 6 years(for me) have been fantastic. I've met some great people, seen and done some great tricks, and found a little corner of the internet that I could call my own. The day has come to say goodbye, my friends. I regret nothing. Not a word written on these forums.

<3 Duke, Staff, and everyone else who might have made my stay enjoyable... And even those who haven't because jerks need love too. Goodbye, friends. See you on the other side.
Heard the site was shutting down, just wanted to say thanks, i loved this place. Everyone was always real kind. And it might be a treat for some people to check out my youtube channel, several gigs of trickery, but it still needs sorted out.

Goodbye all, we had some good times in the cloud.
Thanks to all the awesome members here who contributed to the community and kept things interesting. This sort of community is more rare than most of us realized. Thanks for being great and making this site what it was.

<3
I've kept trying to post in this thread and have just come up short every time, unable to find the right words. This community has been a big part of me since I was just 12 years old, and it's going to be sad to see it go. I've checked this site *literally* every day that I've been on a computer for longer than I can remember, and it's going to be weird not to keep that up.

I've sent an email to myself in the year 2014 telling me to check HIH. Whether that means some world-shattering nostalgia or the joy of finding out the site is up and running again, I'll just have to wait and see. Regardless of what happens, everyone here has been amazing and I hope you all get good things from life.

There go my words, bringing me up short again. I just can't express how much I'll miss this place.

I love you guys. Have a good one.

Brilliant Idea *Copies*

Anyway thanks for all the great times Duke. You are a Legend (not quite a super legend apparently but w/e ;P)
4 years, over 1,000 things to say, a couple friends made, a few people pissed off; It's like college, really. Except that I got to be around some cool people and actually learned a thing or two.

I am not like many of you here (and I do have a point behind this). In all the time I've been coming here I still do not understand the die-hard glitchers/trickers. I do some of them, and I find others enjoyable, but I've had countless arguments both here and in person about why someone would prefer a game riddled with glitches and errors (Halo 2) instead a finer-produced better playing game (Halo 3, Reach). It makes no sense to me why a "broken" game (as I see it) gets such praise. So why, being in a very small group, am I here?

Because you guys, as a whole, have been some the best people I've talked to online. A single bastion of friendly conversation and honest debate in the otherwise idiotic immaturity of the internet. HIH, I believe, brings in some of the best within the Halo community, not to say the other fine community hubs that exist are all chaff, but the best and smartest threads seem to always be here.
I mean, High Impact Halo got top billing in the special thanks section of Halo 3's credits! That still surprises me. Not because it doesn't deserve it, but because the community made it THAT important.

We built this city on our love of the game, the people who make it, and the friends we've made. A community like this is a rare thing, and HIH has been our playground for years.

Thank you High Impact Halo. Thank you Ducain. Thank you everyone.

Godspeed, HIH.
Everyone here at HIH, you have grown to become the closest friends that I’ve ever had. Although I had not known all of you…perhaps in a way, I did. You and I, we grew up together. You were my childhood friend. When I needed somewhere to go, guess where you were? Right here, bud. All of you. For years.

For that, I shall be forever thankful. If you ever need help, I am out there. Find me.

Stay safe, remember me, and most importantly…

always keep the spirit of HIH within you.

Wow, how is it that I love every single post you ever make?
Goodbye HIH :frown:

You will end on a positive note today.

I will miss you HIH! Be good while we are gone!
So sad to finally post my final post :(

I guess it can be considered an end to something great, as HIH was my first forum and has been since I started lurking early 2005. I joined under SEU Cerdo in 2006 and jumped to my last name, which I am habitually called by irl in 2007.

Although my activity was never more than a "job well done", the enjoyment I got from the spirit of the community was tremendous. Every day since day 1 have come to this forum. It has blown my mind watching the evolution of this sites past, but not even the Halo related aspect of it. We couldn't have of asked for a better Moderating Staff and a better group of "kids" to build such a wonderful place to be.

@Duke- this was amazing, your devotion in the past 7 years (whether you think you were extremely active or not) was incredible. I'll always remember what you helped build here, and it brings a tear to my eye to have to write this.

@EVERYONE ELSE- What a go! down to the last day this site IMO has been blowing up in spirit. the announcement of our closing brought so many people together here in the past few weeks. Every one of us should be proud to have of put together such an amazing world. With all games aside, the site was nothing without the people; and what amazing people we had.

Live strong HIH

I want to also add in that HIH was here at the LOWEST part of my life. I had a hard up-bringing in 2004. HIH and its members were always here for me. I fee like I'm honestly, now, as a 22yr old man...going to cry sitting here reminiscing. THANKS GRUMPY YOU'RE MAKING ME WANT TO CRY! I'm glad I was one of the many contributors here at HIH was able to help people out. I really am a modest person, but I always felt like I never really was a "celebrity" or "famous" in the Halo Community. The Halo Tricking Community showed me otherwise. You all treated me with such respect and I always wanted to give back to you. I hope everything I ever did for HIH, for all of you was nothing but good in the end. Excuse me, I'm going to find a kleenex box now :' (

I love this site. I will miss it dearly. It has changed who I am today. It's insane to think about how long I have been here, but I can definitely say I am a better person because of this forum. It has taught me things about myself I never would have learned otherwise. Thanks.

I am sad that HIH will be frozen, but happy that it launched a brand new community where I will be spending my time like I did here, Jumprs. I hope to see you all there when the time comes to part ways...

Had to play a part before the close. :D
Really wish I could've been there. Regardless, I'm going to spend alot of time browsing through all the content here.
It's really awesome to see people like shad0wflame, korhal, and grunty around, cool to see ms.man still getting recognition.
I could name so many inspirations and notable characters, but in the end, it's everyone that made this site what it is. <3
I truly will miss this site. It became a home to me, and I loved it. HIH was a part of my day-to-day life, and it has helped change me into a better person. I may not have been a part of this site at its prime, but I'll never forget all of the memories from HIH. I'll remember all of you, the community, mostly; you were all such amazing people. Hell, I didn't even know most of you guys, aside from a few discussions in threads, but I can definitely say that I don't know half of you half as well as I should like. You were all such a fantastic community, and I will always cherish the many memories that we shared here.

Goodbye HIH. I love you and will miss you, as well as all of the awesome people here. But now it is time to move onto a new home.

We will love you forever HIH.
Oh shit, I just got weepy.
KORHAL;847654 says:

Oh man I wished you had said this earlier so I could make it my signature
Goodbye HIH. I had a lot of good times here. I remember when I came across this place for the first time, shortly after Halo 2 came out, back when there was a drop down list with the map names and you'd choose a map and it'd list the videos. I think I stayed up all night watching every video available, then went looking for more. I never got big into tricking, I enjoyed a little messing around with friends here and there, but I really just preferred seeing what everyone else was doing.

It was HIH that inspired me to start my clan back in Halo 2, Infectionist. I'm sure more than a few of you know about Infectionist.com, the site that I created for Clan Infectionist (no longer a clan), and stubbornly continue to run. Without HIH, I never would have done those things, I wouldn't have learned how to program and do what I do now.

I jumped around quite a bit in my time here, from Graphics to Y&B, to the various Halo forums. I even got banned once, I don't remember why, but I still came back because I just liked this place that much. I will miss HIH and it'll be sad to delete it from my favorites. To think, I registered on April 23, 2006, almost exactly 5 years ago, and I lurked for longer than that on all the previous versions of the site.

Goodbye HIH, this is the way your world ends, not with a whimper but with a bang. (Yes, I deliberately swapped that).
Worse birthday present ever..............................

I am glad i check this site tonight. I was going to say something snarky about it being my birthday tomorrow (April 6th) then I saw this. It broke my heart. Although I don't hang around here much since getting married (its great, everyone should try it) this place has been a rock to me. I knew I could always come back here and find friends. I tip my hats the the glitchers that this forum produced and I am glad I could be numbered among them. I joined many many years ago in the beginings of halo2 glitching. It was amazing the things we were doing then. Holograms on burial mounds, convertibility wraiths, exploration on headlong, I am honored that I was around to see them.

Direct shout out to my clan, Orbis Sanctum, Galador, Noff, Shad0wFlame, HSG, Phasmorphage, and many many others. You were my brothers. I will miss you.

Carry on the good fight.
As day has worn into night, it is striking me more and more that the site is going into cryo soon. You know how hard it is to read the Phaedo right now? Really froodlenutzskying hard. Silly Philosophy 220.

Anyway, I can't possibly help but:
HaLo2FrEeEk;847745 says:

Pfft. Don't feel so awkward about swapping that up; the Cortana Letters themselves do it spectacularly, and a Halo community should be ecstatic to take advantage of Halo's deepest roots.

The First Cortana Letter (Links to the bungie.org MBO story page):

I have walked the edge of the Abyss.
I have governed the unwilling.
I have witnessed countless empires break before me.
I have seen the most courageous soldiers fall away in fear.
[I was there with the Angel at the tomb">

I have seen your future.
And I have learned.

There will be no more Sadness. No more Anger. No more Envy.

I HAVE WON.

Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends.
I guess that's what happens in the end, you start thinking about the beginning.

<3

Adios Amigos.
'Twas a slice.
There goes my little slice of paradise. What am I going to do without this place.

Well, see you all in hell. [img">http://www.odinseye.org/files/smug.gif[/img">
Race to the last post!
probably my last post, I wish to use it to say my final goodby to HIH evan though I will be lurking the boat load of earlier posts that I wasn't here for, and I shall also try tomorow as the time zone is different for me it may just make it to the morning, also I cling to the hope that duke will be a tad forgetful and leave the site on for an extra day by accident (not likely I know but I can try)
Copied this from the 'about yourself' thread; felt it applies nicely.
I've spent more hours on this site than I'd like to count, but I do not regret it. By far the best community I've had the honor of being a part of, and HIH will always remain my favorite destination on the internet. It spent nearly 3 years as my homepage (albeit the later end of that circumvented the front page), and was always my first stop during my random browsing sessions. HIH defined my hobby, and brought some of us weird froodlenutzkieers together to share a common goal of pushing a great games to it's limits, and then a bit further.

I met the random group of people that I know as my friends through this website, which would've led to a rather dull internet-experience, had it not happened. It's hard to think of a website as becoming a major part of your life, but without it, I can honestly say that I would not be anything remotely close to the person I am today.

Thank you, HIH, for providing too much to list. (though, I could've done without so many sleepless nights spent perfecting a trick, or the stress of remembering to record a one-time launch after a 15 hour setup)

To HIH, my friends [Gorillaz2189, Melkor, Zophory, SnowJP, Boofass, Kedglo, Mman19, Hell4u3, all the rest of DWT">, acquaintances, fellow trickers, and the rest of you that may or may not know me:

Thank you.
Farewell, HIH.

'Til we meet again.

It's been a little over 5 years sense I found HIH. It has been one enjoyable ride and has changed me a lot. I have met some awesome people on this website and have experienced a lot of good times with all of you. This community has compiled the greatest Halo video collection you can find. Anakade and the rest of the community pretty much sums it up in this thread.

It's been a fun ride, HIH.

-Jake, UnfixedSNIPERJ
I just want to say thanks to Ducain for running such a great site. It's been a lot of fun and I would say most of the other members have summed up how i feel about this. It'll be missed but it was fun while it lasted! Thanks again.

Edit: I want to thank all the forum members who made this site an enjoyable experience. And thanks to the friends I made on the way ; Grumpy, LDG, Xlax, HB and plenty more. Thanks for giving me a second chance for being able to go from the modder everyone detested to being on the front page. Thanks again I'll miss you all.
So long. Its been a great place for info.
Wow lots of old faces around here. Good to see everyone out to say goodbye.

Thank you for all of the memories guys, here is to hoping 343i can refresh the series enough and bring back the tricking community.

<3
Great times. Goodbye for now all.
I didn't visit here nearly as much as I should have - but I'm sure gonna miss it anyway.

Been a good run!
Hmm. Not long from now I'll be in philosophy class, and I have a doctor visit after that. By the time I get back on campus, this site will brobably be frozen; more 5 years down the line from my arrival (Line? It's interesting how different cultures perceive the passage of time...), I suppose that this will be my last post here.

I find that I have very little to say, other than thank you, HIH will most definitely be remembered.

I have also developed a strong urge to watch the 1968 Leone classic, Once Upon a Time in the West, which I suppose makes sense. Like events here of late, it is the tale of an end of an era and, in its case, a mythology. Friday, perhaps.

That is all.

Goodbye, HIH. <3

-uber
Oh geez. HIH goes way back for me. From getting introduced to tricking on headlong and getting out of PoA to reach Halo, even to getting screwed over by Maluu in his first trick jumping competition.

I can understand why this place is coming to a close, as many Halo related forums are relatively dead. But this place was great while it lasted. Sad to see it go, but proud to be a part!
Thanks for the good times. Halo 2 was a great game for glitches and tricks and I had hours of fun from the things I learnt here. To all the tricksters, thank you.
Thank you Ducain for this great site, hold your head high. This place will be a great piece of Halo History. I'm glad I could leave a comment on it's final day.

Still bitter I never won the lottery lol.

Xmoose out :)
I was always an HBOer, but I never followed HIH because I'm terrible at Halo. Though I definitely know how important you guys have been to the community. It's sad to see you go, but I'm glad that it's ending this poetically.

Last one out, hit the lights.

~EJ
I'll miss you guys. Keep in touch, okay?

Facebook - Conor Kinkade.
This is going to sound crazy, but I randomly decided to come back today and see how things were going. I am happy and sad to see this happen. I am sad to see a place where I have spent so many hours, and had so many people to connect with on my all my tricking and playing over the years. But, I am happy to see that it is not leaving - only resting.

Thanks to everyone over the years that helped make HIH what it is today.

-Omok
High Impact Halo started my passion for exploring and tricking in the halo games. It lead me to experience that moment, having tweaked and considered every other possible plan of action, when you stand triumphantly at you're destination. Creeping to the edge of the elusive perch on which you currently stand and gazing back down towards the now tiny scorched spec of dirt where you started. I honestly can't remember my first launch, my first clip, or my first sword cancel, but its not what I was doing that made them important its the enjoyment I got from them at the time. I know, I am grateful for all the good times I had on this site seeing amazing ideas, skills, and cooperation that made for outstanding and just plain epic moments
Thanks Guys
